Meowbox October 2015

It's been awhile since I've done a review for Meowbox, but we have been receiving it consistently since June 2014 (I keep renewing a 6 month subscription). It's a big hit with the cats, some of their all-time favourite toys have come from these boxes, and it has introduced us to so many great treats that we probably would not have purchased if not for Meowbox.

Cost: $32.95/month
          $27.95/month on a 3 month subscription ($83.85 charged every 6 months)
          $22.95/month on a 6 month subscription ($137.70 charged every 6 months)

I love the personalization each month! Obviously the cats don't care about this, but it makes me feel like they value my business by adding a personal touch. Everything is always nicely wrapped in orange tissue paper with a little feather, which the cats usually try to destroy.

Value: $6?
Meowbox has sent items from this company before, and they have all been a hit. Pita loved this thing! They clearly contain decent catnip because Pita licked this thing for about half an hour when I first gave it to her. Magoo loves chewing on catnip toys for some reason, so I've had to hide this thing.

Value: $3.99
I honestly forgot about this being in this box, I don't think I've seen it since I took this picture. One of the pets must have kicked it under a couch or took it downstairs. In this house, hard to say where it went....

Value: $6.99
We received the red version of this, and oh man does it stink. It actually smells like fish, gross. That said, Hero went absolutely nuts over this thing (see picture below). It's been awhile since he's loved a toy this much...so if he's happy I'm happy!

Value: $4.55 (Amazon.ca price)
This toy has been a hit with all of the animals. I've caught both dogs and both cats playing with it, and it's been strong enough to hold up against all of them so far.

Value: $3.19
Meowbox has sent this brand of treats before. The cats ate them, even though they were in no way their favourite. Hero will eat these, Pita prefers soft treats. This brand is also sold for dogs, which our guys love though.

Hero was one happy kitty cat with his new fish. To keep this away from the dogs it's been placed into a giant box that Hero likes to hide it, and every so often we'll hear him inside the box going crazy playing with this thing.

This box contained 5 items (4 of which were toys) with a total combined value of $24.72. On a 6 month subscription it's just barely worth more than the price I paid, but on a 3 month or month-to-month you wouldn't even break even (if that's what is important). I like receiving new-to-us products that I probably wouldn't pick up and buy on my own. This is a subscription box that's around to stay for awhile.

Meowbox October 2014

I'm so far behind on posting this! The cats love their Meowbox, and it's very consistent with shipping times (it almost always shows up around the 17th or 18th of the month). The October box was the fifth month on a 6 month subscription, so I need to give this company more money and keep it going. I'm so far behind on posting this I've already lost/thrown out the product information card, so I have no idea who made some of the toys (sorry!)

Cost: varies depending on length of subscription
          $32.95/month
          $27.95/month on a 3 month subscription
          $22.95/month on a 6 month subscription

Pita waiting for me to use my opposable thumbs and open the box...

Please just open it already!

As always, the inside of the box is personalized with their names :)

Something in here was intriguing them...

First look - an entire bag of catnip?! No wonder they were going crazy!

Pita tripping on the nip...

Halloween catnip toy - This also had catnip in it. Hero immediately scooped this out of the box and rubbed it all over his face (hence all the cat hair covering it...) This is clearly handmade, more than likely from Etsy (although I lost/threw out the information card so I can't even give the creator credit for it...)
Value: $5? That's a complete guess...

Friskies Party Mix - This is welcome at this house! Pita loves these (and Hero will eat just about anything...). Since it has been over a month since this box arrived, this bag of treats is long gone....
Value: $1.72 at Walmart

Kookomunga Krazee Kitty Catnip - Hero and Pita love their nip (what cat doesn't?!). It was actually really hard to take a picture of this (you can see Hero's face sniffing it...)
Value: $4.39

Hero loves rubbing nip all over his face...what a weirdo...

The Paw Project DVD - I haven't watched this yet, but it's a documentary against declawing cats (which I've always thought seems like a cruel thing to do).
Value: $15

Nala Cat Stickers - These are cute! I'll probably end up sending them to my sponsor child
Value: $5

Rubie's Pet Shop Boutique - Devil Horns. There is no chance our cats will ever be ok with wearing these.
Value: $3.99

Pom-pom Balls - Again, I lost the information card and have no idea where these are from. Both cats enjoyed these though, I think they might now be lost in the abyss under the couch?
Value: $2? Again, another complete guess....

The overall value of the October Meowbox was $37.10 (but don't forget I completely guessed at the value of two of the products). This is one of the higher value boxes from them, and was the fifth month in a row Hero and Pita were spoiled kitties.

Meowbox - August 2014 Review

This past week was probably Hero and Pita's favourite time of the month - the arrival of their Meowbox. They get so excited whenever it shows up, and destroy the tissue paper before I can even get a picture of the first look.

Pita LOVES the Meowbox! (Ignore the cardboard boxes in the background, that's just part of the cat's cardboard condo...and you can also see some of my July Tea Sparrow and August Ipsy still sitting on the coffee table haha)

Both cats sniffing it out, they knew this was all for them!

First look. I just realized I didn't get a picture of the long polka dot thing on it's own because the cats went CRAZY over it...

Licks Pill-Free Solution to Pet Health - Home Feeding Aid and Hairball
I read their website, and these seem like a great idea! They have a 98% absorption rate, compared to 20% in pill form, and they contain all natural ingredients. I'm sure the cats will eat these if I mix it in with their normal hard food!
Value: $1/each

Hauspanther Taffy Roll Cat Toy A toy made of colourful fleece fabric which cats will love to chase, and the ends are easy to grab.
Pita chased this around the other night, throwing it in the air and then going crazy trying to catch it. It was so adorable, she was loving life!
Value: $5 for a 2-pack (so $2.50 for the one)

EcoPup Wool Felt Catnip Heart - Hero loved this! He picks it up and rubs it all over his face. What a crazy boy...
Value: $5/pack of 2 (again, $2.50 when it comes to value of this box)

Wellness Healthy Indulgence Turkey and Duck - L gave this to the cats tonight, and there was so much juice on it! Hero and Pita both licked up the juice instantly, but Hero didn't seem to enjoy the actual chunks of food (he ate a few, but if he was a human I'm sure he would have said "meh"). Pita is a tiny little cat (she weighs less than 6 pounds and is ~3 years old) but she ate and ate and ate. I'd definitely look into buying this again!
Value : $1.99

Snack 21 Salmon Snacks for Cats - Another cat treat made from 100% all natural ingredients and made in Canada! Pita sniffed these and walked away (which is not really a surprise), but Hero gobbles these up! The bag is already over half gone...
Value: $3.97

Pita licking her catnip kicker... I mentioned earlier that I forgot to get a picture of it on it's own, but here's the info!
Cat Nip Kicker by the Empurrium - I love this company! They're the same company who included a bowtie and bandana in the July Meowbox, and they use some of the cutest fabrics! I am actually in the process of placing a personalized order for a catnip mat and another catnip kicker with the cat's names embroidered on them :)
Value: $7.31

Hero posing with the EcoPup felt heart:)

This was the third month in my 6 month subscription, and it was probably the best one yet! The cats loved everything so far (they still haven't tried the Licks). The value of Meowbox isn't the best at only $20.27, but it's still worth more than I paid (I had a coupon code when I signed up to bring the cost of each month down to $17.67). Plus, the pricing I have listed does not include any shipping costs (which is an additional $7 just for the catnip kicker alone), so it would actually be worth way more if I added all of that in. Regardless of value, I just love the experience of this box, and the cats love new toys/treats/food! If you're interested in subscription, check out Meowbox.com and enjoy your happy kitties!

Meowbox Review July 2014

The July Meowbox arrived while we were in Winnipeg, but the cats didn't destroy it this month. I was really excited to open this up and see what was inside; the cats really enjoyed it last month. Since they weren't going crazy over it, I knew there wasn't any catnip inside this time (they still carry around the catnip cow they received in their June box, and have almost chewed the leg off it...)

The box was personalized with their names again, which I think is great! Just a little extra something to show that they care!

So much stuff! The first look was positive.

I somehow forgot to take a picture of the product card, and now I can't find it anywhere :( I will try to find out who made these, and let you all know asap.
EDIT: These are made by "Cat Dancer"
They have been a hit with the cats, I watched Pita toss one around and chase it for at least 15 minutes yesterday.

Value: $1.75
L fed this to the cats last night, and they both really seemed to enjoy it (and chicken isn't usually their favourite flavor). I think I'll be buying more of this one (and possibly some of the other kinds as well). This is a little pricey, so it won't become their all-the-time food, but it's nice to switch it up every so often.
Value: $1.80 (I calculated this based on the cost of a 2LB box)
Hero and Pita haven't tried this one yet, but the dehydrated food from last month was a hit.

Value: I honestly can't find any pricing anywhere online for this.
We haven't tried this one yet either, but it did come with a coupon for a discounted price on a full size bag.

Yappetizers - Calamari - $8.95
Sold in BC, AB, MB and ON
These treats are made in Canada, which is great to see! They are made for cats and dogs, and contain no preservatives, only 100% natural ingredients. Hero was trying to knock the bag out of my hand, I wasn't opening it up quick enough for him, and he gobbled his first sample down as quickly as he could. Since then, he'll still eat them, but he doesn't seem to love them as much as he loved them initially. Pita is so fussy for a former stray, and just turned her nose up at these (no surprise, there are very few treats she'll actually eat.)

The EmPurrium
Bowtie - $4.97
Bandana - $6.07
These are so adorable! They slide over a collar to make your kitty instantly fancier! Scroll to the bottom of this post to see Pita with the bandana on :)

Another great month from Meowbox!

I used the collar I received in the June box and put the little bandana from theempurrium.com on Pita. She was not a happy kitty, but she did sit still long enough for me to get a picture of her. I thought she looked so cute with it on :)

I still have four months left on my subscription to Meowbox, but based on the first two months I will definitely be extending it! This month the value of everything included was $23.54 plus the cost of the Wild Calling dry food sample and the toys (so I'd guess this month is worth ~$30). When I signed up for my 6 month subscription, I had a coupon code which brought the cost of each month down to $17.67, so not too bad. This isn't a high value box like some of the other ones I receive each month, but the value doesn't matter when I see how excited the cats get over new toys (and I love feeding them food/treats that are more natural than the stuff they usually get). Thank you Meowbox!

Meowbox - June 2014 Review

My first month of my Meowbox subscription arrived while L and I were on vacation in the Maritimes, so I can't say exactly how long it took to show up from the time it shipped. My mom was looking after all of the fur babies, so she set all of the mail in a pile on the coffee table. Every day when she would come to check on everyone, the Meowbox would be in a new location. The cats knew there was stuff in there for them, and it drove them crazy.

My mom sent me this picture one day, it looks like they were trying to figure out how to use scissors...

The box was pretty beat up by the time we got home....

It actually took me a few days to get around to opening up all of my own mail, but I had to open this one up as soon as I got home. Both cats were so excited when they saw me pick up the box...
Pita wouldn't even let me get a picture of my first look. As soon as I opened the box she was standing inside it...

Both cats were so intrigued, I knew there had to be catnip in there somewhere...

I love that they personalize each box with the cat's names :)

Pita was losing her mind, tearing apart the tissue paper...

Crazy cat...

She did a bit of damage to the box getting the toy out...

She was one happy kitty with her new catnip toy. She got pretty upset with me when I took it from her to cut the tag off... This is clearly top notch catnip.
Doggie Styles and Kitty Too Catnip Toy
Cost: $4.67

The product card with some information about each product

Primal Formula Freeze-dried food (turkey)...we haven't given either one of these to the cats yet, so hard to say if they will like it or not.
I haven't checked out local pet stores to see if they carry this, and what it would cost, but you can buy a 14oz bag (which the internet has told me contains ~50nuggets) for almost $50 on amazon.ca. Going off that price, this sample is worth ~$2.
Edit: We finally gave one of these nuggets to the cats, and they loved it! We mashed it up with a tiny amount of water, and it didn't take them long to lick the plate clean.

LeKiwis Feline Fashion Collar - I love that this is a break-away collar with a bell, but it turned into a fight when I tried putting it on Pita.
Cost: $6.83/each

Benny Bully's Liver Chops - Pita sniffs these and walks away, she is not a fan. Hero will eat them, but only if there are no other options around. I like the idea of feeding the cats treats with no added chemicals, but we won't be buying these based on Hero and Pita's reaction to them.
Cost: $3.99

The human gift for this month was a cute little postcard from catversushuman. L put it on the fridge, but I plan on sending it to my grandmother who loves cats.
Cost: ~$2.50

Coddies Cat Treats by Tumbleweed and Eddie's - Again, I love the idea of feeding the cats all natural treats, but the ones we gave Hero and Pita just sat on the floor for two days until I finally picked them up and threw them out. These will end up being donated to a local shelter.
Cost: $4.99

Hero finally got a chance to play with the new catnip toy, he also enjoyed it. I didn't actually get a picture of the toy, but it's shaped like a cow, and the white is now stained green from the cats licking it so much. It's still a big hit, 5 days after opening the Meowbox though, so that's a win!

Cost: $29.95/month, $74.85/quarter or $119.70/half year (All subscriptions include the cost of shipping)

This box ended up being worth a little under $25, which isn't bad considering I'm on a 6 month subscription and I had a code when I signed up to bring the overall cost of each month down to $17.67. I look forward to the next 5 months of this one, hopefully the cats will start liking organic treats...
